Congratulations to Debbie Long for being elected to a second term as President of the Montgomery County Paralegal Association (MCPA). Debbie was originally elected to the Board of Directors in October of 2007.
When asked why she believes she was elected for a second term, Debbie stated, “We accomplished our goals.” Debbie knew she was dealing with a difficult economy and that fund raising efforts would have to be a priority in 2009. She sat down with the Marketing Committee to review revenue sources and marketing strategies and developed a written business plan to help keep the Association on track. Not only did MCPA raise enough money in 2009 to maintain its traditional services and programs, they were also able to implement a scholarship program for their student members and to establish a reserve fund for the Association.
The Montgomery County Paralegal Association is a group comprised of over one hundred individuals whose mission is to provide a network of communication and support to all of its members, to act as a forum for the interchange of ideas and to take an effective role in the development and growth of the paralegal profession. The MCPA’s stated goal for 2010 is to reach out to members in an effort to increase active participation. The MCPA hopes to accomplish this through several avenues, including the formation of a Hospitality Committee, the creation of a Facebook Group, and modifications to its newsletter (MCPA Today) and website (www.montcoparalegals.org).
DBYD actively supports the MCPA, having sponsored two CLE seminars for the Association in 2009. Jonathan Young, Chair of DBYD’s Labor and Employment Law Practice Group, will be presenting a seminar on best practices in Workers Compensation at the MCPA’s Annual Breakfast Meeting on March 20, 2010.
